Built in the 1700s, the villa is a national monument for Italy. It was constructed in the 1700’s by Count Passalacqua who had been granted the property by the Odescalchi Family, a Northern Papal family. This magnificent property was designed by Felice Soave, a prominent Swiss architect.
The interiors were finished by one of the most coveted designers at the time, Giocondo Albertolli, whose credits also include the Pitti Palace and Uffizi Gallery in Florence.
While Felice Soave designed the Villa to have a simple facade, Giocondo Albertolli designed the interiors.
Over the centuries the villa has played host to numerous musicians, artists, writers and statesmen including Napoleon Buonaparte, Vincenzo Bellini and Winston Churchill.
Vincenzo Bellini, one of the most important composers of Italian opera in his time, was a guest that stayed at the villa for long periods between the years of 1829 and 1833, and composed the operas Norma, Sonnambula, and La Straniera while at Villa Soave. The music room is a special two-story room with a balustrade above and three eighteenth century Albertolli frescoes. The piano, a Bluethner Grand Piano, once stood in the Leipzig concert hall and now plays beautifully in the Villa.
The villa has been updated with every modern convenience imaginable, including a gym, billiards room, and ensuite baths in each guest suite. The swimming pool enjoys views of the church Sant' Agata of the 12th century church, Lake Como, and the italian gardens.
The gardens and the park are between the most historic and beautiful on Lake Como. Aside from the formal gardens, there is also a vegetable garden, olive groves. From the villa is possible to reach the private peer and the lake through the park road or through an underground tunnel that runs under the gardens. This is an unique situation on lake Como.

The ceilings on the public rooms as well as the bedrooms are ornately decorated and painted. The floors are a beautiful mixture of Cotto Lombardo, Seminato, and dark antique wood. The Villa is filled with beautiful paintings, sculptures, rugs, tapestries and Venetian chandeliers. The kitchen is large and airy with Subzero refrigerators and wine coolers, Viking and Gaggeneau ovens, grills and ranges, multiple disposals, two dishwashers, a vegetable and fish steamer and a fryer. The counter tops are made of Verona marble and the cabinetry is richly decorated with hand carved wood.
The guest house named Villa Bellini has a total of six bedrooms and four have bathrooms en-suite, a sitting room, kitchen, dining room.
