Hotels On Lake Como

Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni Bellagio

The Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni is the only 5 star luxury hotel in Bellagio and one of the oldest and most elegant hotels in the Lake Como area.
From April to November the salons and the large lakeside garden offer guests the opportunity to enjoy a holiday close to nature immersed in a breathtaking panorama.
Villa Serbelloni has a very ancient history. Owned by the Sfondrati family in 1533 it was passed on to the ownership of Count Alessandro Serbelloni who dedicated his heart and soul to the property. The exterior appearance, extensive yet with simple lines, was not changed. The inside was carefully decorated, from vaulted and coffered ceilings, to paintings and works of art.

The Duke Serbelloni was interested in the immense park, where he commissioned tracks suitable for vehicles, driveways and paths to be built for a stretch of nearly 18 KM. When the duke died in Bellagio in1826 the villa was passed onto his two children, Giovan Battista and Ferdinando, progressively falling into disuse after their death and the passing of their heirs. In 1870 the property was rented to Antonio Mella who made it an annex of the Grande Bretagne Hotel. Finally, in 1907, it was sold to a Swiss company who converted it into the Serbelloni Hotel. The hotel was purchased by the princess Ella Walker who in 1959 left it as an inheritance to the Rockefeller Foundation.

Today Villa Serbelloni is a popular destination and meeting place for scholars.
Many were the illustrious guests who stayed in the villa: Emperor Maximilian I, Leonardo da Vinci, Lodovico the Moor, Bianca Sforza and Cardinal Borromeo. In the nineteenth century the roster of guests was quite impressive: Pellico, Moroncelli, Emperor Francis I, Queen Victoria, Kaiser Wilhelm, Umberto I; writers such as Manzoni, Grossi and Pindemonte.
Lovers of peace and quiet can alternate the pleasure of a poolside drink with aesthetic treatments at Villa Serbelloni SPA, the hotel's own beauty farm. Or they can set off from the private dock for a motorboat trip to the historic gardens along the lake which, in springtime, attract tourists from all over the world to admire the wonderful flowering of the azaleas. It’s easy to fall in love with Bellagio and many foreign tourists have even decided to make it their home by purchasing luxury villas on the lake or renting properties for the summer season.
The gardens of Villa Serbelloni are open to visitors from 1 April to early November every day except for Monday, with guided tours only.
Sports enthusiasts can take advantage of the hotel gym and two tennis courts, enjoy delightful walks or ride a mountain bike along the Bellagio promontory.
Villa Serbelloni offers guests an impressive selection of restaurants and bars serving lunch and dinner or a place to stop for a simple snack.
Each room offers air conditioning, LCD television with satellite reception and a minibar. The furnishings are classic with soft carpeting, wood furnishings and unique details.
Villa Serbelloni is situated on the wooded promontory of Bellagio, which divides the lake into two branches, and is at the head of the central promontory of the Lario. Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful tourist destinations, not only in Lake Como, but in the whole world.
