Hotels On Lake Como

Grand Hotel Tremezzo Lake Como

The Grand Hotel Tremezzo is one of the oldest and loveliest luxury hotels on Lake Como. An authentic Art Nouveau palace.
The hotel opened its doors in the early 1900’s when Lake Como was already an obligatory stopover, one of the preferred destinations of eclectic tourism that was developing at the time.
Enea Gandola, after travelling far and wide throughout Europe with his wife Maria Orsolini, decided to build a hotel right in the centre of one of the world’s most beautiful lakes, that could satisfy the demands of special guests. The couple chose this extraordinary location, bordering on the gardens of Villa Carlotta.
The Grand Hotel Tremezzo opened on 10 July 1910.

After World War I the hotel began a new era.
In the 1930’s the hotel was purchased by the Sampietro family. During this period Tremezzo became a renowned destination for cosmopolitan tourism.
Greta Garbo refers to Tremezzo as that happy, sunny place in the famous film “Grand Hotel” (1932). In spite of the terrible events of World War II the Grand Hotel Tremezzo never closed its doors, and when the war ended it was ready to welcome a new type of clientele with its customary grace.
Today, following in the footsteps of the Gandola’s and Sampietro’s, another family is continuing the tradition of the Grand Hotel Tremezzo, proud to celebrate one hundred years of the charm and authentic Italian hospitality of this highly luxurious yet pleasantly welcoming hotel.
The Grand Hotel Tremezzo is immersed in a beautiful century-old park: a blaze of flower and plants, featuring ancient and precious magnolias, a profusion of palms, beds of azaleas, tulips and geraniums, hedges of rhododendron and beds of hydrangea.
The park of about 20,000 m2 completely surrounds the buildings of the Palace and Villa Emilia with footpaths and steps that gently wind up the hill to the Belvedere, where it adjoins the gardens of Villa Carlotta, the villa’s aristocratic neighbour.
The tranquil greenery of the park hosts the Piscina dei Fiori, the clay tennis court and the Panoramic Trail, decorated with various pieces of contemporary sculpture, making it the perfect place for enjoying an unforgettable holiday on Lake Como.
All 90 rooms and suites are decorated in pastel colours: each with a different colour, all richly embellished with sumptuous fabrics.
This luxurious hotel offers numerous sports activities, such as tennis and golf and the T spa, a paradise for extreme relaxation.
Grand Hotel Tremezzo rises up on banks of Lake Como in a strategic location at the heart of the lake, just an hour’s drive from Milan’s Malpensa international airport.
